Terms and Conditions

1) Information on how to enter forms part of the terms and conditions of entry. Entry into the promotion and acceptance of a prize is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions. Headings in this document are included for ease of reference, and do not affect interpretation in any way.

Duration

3) The promotion opens at 10:00 AEDT on Saturday, 2nd July 2022 and closes at 11:59 AEDT on Sunday, July 17 2022 (Promotion Period)

Eligibility to enter

4) Entry is open only to Australian residents (Eligible Entrants), excluding directors, management, employees and their immediate families of the Promoters and its related bodies corporate and registered travel companions of employees of the Promoters and their related bodies corporate.

Entry into the promotion

5) To enter, during the Promotion Period to win 12 x blocks of Fu Wax of your choice, 2 x Fu Wax T-shirts and 2 x sticker sheets. To be eligible entrant must simply follow @fu_wax_au on Instagram, tag 5 friends and repost the competition’s Instagram post to their stories.

6) Entries must be received by the Promoters during the Promotion Period and multiple entries per eligible entrant is allowed.

7) The time of entry will be deemed to be the time the entry is received by the Promoters.

8) The Promoters reserve the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and Eligible Entrants (including an entrant's identity, age and place of residence) and to disqualify any entrant who tampers with the entry process. Failure by the Promoters to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.

9) The Promoters accept no responsibility for any late, incomplete, incorrectly submitted, delayed, illegible, corrupted or misdirected entries, claims or correspondence, whether due to error, omission, alteration, tampering, deletion, transmission interruption, communications failure or otherwise.

11) The Promoters will not accept entries that they deem, in their absolute discretion, to be unlawful, fraudulent, obscene, derogatory, pornographic, sexually inappropriate, violent, abusive, threatening, objectionable with respect to race, religion, origin or gender, or otherwise unsuitable for publication.

12) Each Eligible Entrant must create their own original entry which does not infringe any third party’s rights, including IP, privacy and publicity rights and does not contain material which is otherwise inappropriate. The entry must not have been previously published in any other medium or forum and the Eligible Entrant must not have granted rights to any other person which are inconsistent with the rights granted to the Promoters here. Entries that are found to have been derived from, or infringe third party IP will be considered invalid, and if awarded a prize, the Promoters reserve the right to withdraw the prize.

13) Each entrant is responsible for the entry they submit. All entries submitted may be used for promotional purposes across Fu Wax Australia channels, including but not limited to social media.

Judging of entries

14) This promotion is a game of chance, and the winners will be chosen from the list of comments submitted on the Fu Wax Australia Instagram competition post at random. The Promoters’ decision in relation to all aspects of the promotion (including where an entry is deemed not to comply with these conditions of entry) is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

15) The Promoters will choose 1 winner by 11:59 AEDT on Sunday, July 17, 2022,

The Prize

16) It is a condition of entry that the prize winners accept all conditions of use of the prize.

17) There will be 1 winner who will receive one (1) prize pack consisting of:

12 x blocks of Fu Wax of their choice – Fu Wax selection will be indicated by the individual after they have been notified as a winner.

2 x Fu Wax T-shirts – size selection will be indicated by the individual after they have been notified as a winner.

2 x assorted sticker sheets

18) The total prize pack has a maximum value of AU$170

19) The total prize pool has a maximum value of AU$170

20) Each prize must be taken as stated and no compensation will be payable if a winner is unable to use the prize as stated. The prize is not exchangeable or redeemable for cash or other goods or services. The prize cannot be transferred to any other person, unless agreed to by the Promoters.

21) If the prize (or part of the prize) is unavailable, the Promoters, in their discretion, reserves the right to substitute the prize (or that part of the prize) with a prize to the equal value and/or specification, subject to any written directions from a regulatory authority.

22) The Promoter will mail the prize to the 1 winner via Australia Post or a similar service within 28 days of receiving the winner’s size selections, and their street addresses.

Notification of the winners

23) All winners of the prize will be notified via a comment made by Fu Wax Australia on the Fu Wax Australia Instagram competition post. Competition post by 10.00 (AEDT) on Monday, July 18th, 2022. The winning Eligible Entrants must respond to the Promoters via Instagram direct message by 17:00 (AEDT) on Tuesday, July 19th, 2022.

Right of the Promoters to rejudge

24) The Promoters reserve the right to rejudge in the event of an entrant being unable to satisfy these promotion terms and conditions or forfeiting or not claiming the prize. For any prize that remains unclaimed by 17:00 (AEDT) on Tuesday, July 19th, 2022, the Promoters will award the prize to the first runners up by 17:00 (AEDT) Wednesday, July 20th. The runners up will be notified via a comment made by Fu Wax Australia’s Instagram competition post.

25) The first runners up must respond to the Promoters via Instagram direct message by 17:00 (AEDT) on Thursday, July 21st, 2022.

26) The Promoters reserve the right to discontinue a re-draw in the event of the first runners up being unable to satisfy these promotion terms and conditions or forfeiting or not claiming the prize.

Limitation of liability and variation of terms

27) If any act, omission, event, or circumstance occurs which is beyond the reasonable control of the Promoters and which prevents the Promoters from complying with these terms and conditions, the Promoters will not be liable for any failure to perform or delay in performing its obligations. The Promoters reserve the right (subject to any applicable law) to cancel, terminate or modify or suspend this promotion.

28) The Promoters, their related bodies corporate and their respective officers, employees, contractors and agents (Promotion Parties) will not be liable for any losses, damages, expenses, costs or personal injuries arising out of this promotion, the promotion of this promotion or the use of any prize, including but not limited to any breach of these terms and conditions, contract or tort (including negligence) and any other common law, equitable or statutory remedy (Damages) whatsoever, including but not limited to direct, indirect and consequential Damages, including Damages that cannot reasonably be considered to arise naturally and in the ordinary course of things, even if those Damages were in the contemplation of the Promotion Parties.

29) The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any late, lost, incomplete, incorrectly submitted, delayed, illegible, corrupted, or misdirected entries, claims or correspondence, whether due to error, omission, alteration, tampering, deletion, theft, destruction, transmission interruption, communications failure or otherwise.

30) The Promoter has no control over mobile telephone communications, networks or lines or the postal service and accepts no responsibility for any problems associated with them, whether due to traffic congestion, technical malfunction, outage, strike or otherwise.

Entry details and privacy

31) Entry details remain the property of the Promoter. The name and entry of the winner may be used for promotional purposes by the Promoter. Entrants consent to the Promoter using personal information provided in connection with this promotion for the purposes of facilitating the conduct of the promotion and awarding any prizes (including to third parties involved in the promotion and any applicable statutory authorities) and to conduct marketing activities. Without limiting the foregoing, entrants’ personal information provided in connection with this promotion.

Tax Implications

32) The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any tax implications that may arise from accepting a prize. Independent financial advice should be sought.

It all started in Brazil around 1966 with the Mansur Brothers, Fuad, Wady, and Elias, living their
California Surfing Dream of the “Laidback Life Style.’’ Their idols were Phill Edwards, Paul Strauch
Jr., and Mike Doyle.

At that time in Brazil there was no surf Industry, nor a single surf related store to buy surf products. This meant that every surfer had to make their own surf wax (melting candles adding a little bit of sand and perfume).

The problem every surfer had with this method was the wax was too slippery, making it unsafe to surf. One day in 1970, the youngest brother, Fuad Mansur aka Fu, received information from a chemist to utilize a special type of material in his surf wax formula. Fuad tested it out and found that it did indeed work, but not nearly enough to meet his desired perfection.

From 1973 to 1987, the brothers dedicated their time to the research, development, and testing of the perfect surf wax formula.

The crew lived inside the lab producing 3 to 5 bars per day (each one a different formula) in which they would test out on their surfboards.

They took each surf session very seriously as they put a significant amount of evaluation into each
wax formula being tested. They would gather on the beach for sunset as they discussed each
individual’s personal experience riding the waves with the different formulas. The wax formulas were rated on a simple scale of 1 to 10, keeping in mind the feeling of security the wax provided them under their feet.

For 14 years they were stuck at level 3, making the 70’s a decade of battles and defeats for Fu Wax.

Edgar Panzoldo, a surfer who works at Fu Wax, said that Fuad invested so much time and money in maintaining the lab and research with his crew for almost 20 years while everyone lived to research and test the product themselves in the water surfing.

(During this 20 years Fuad spent all the inheritance that his father left for him).

In 1987 everything changed.

There was an error in the lab at the melting point of a certain kind of raw material, resulting in the ideal wax texture for super cold water. The Fu Wax Crew immediately packed their bags and drove 1600 km to Torres (south of Brazil, near to icy waters of Uruguay and Argentina) with only 3 bars of 80 grams to test this ‘’Melting Point Error’’ Batch.

They arrived at Torres Beach late afternoon where Fu caught his first wave and for the first time ever felt a sense of security under his feet that he had dreamt of for decades. Everyone was shocked as they realized they had finally reached the level 10!

After surfing for 2 hours in the freezing water everyone went in for a hot shower. Fu, however, continued surfing as he was overly ecstatic with this astonishing grip he had finally
achieved. He continued surfing well after 2 hours as the wax still obtained its strong grip.

It was dark by the time he finally came in as he passed out cold on the beach with hyperthermy. He was hospitalized for 2 days during which he created the Fu Wax Slogan, ‘’Adherence Taken Seriously.’

’Today, Fu Wax is still a 100% Handmade Factory in its homeland of Brazil.

It is operated by Fuad Mansur & Family who have dedicated their lives to developing the perfect surf wax Formula.

The other surfers gave their rights of ownership to Fuad, as he was and remains the group leader, investing money and persevering more than anyone. A product that started as a simple dream to live the “Laidback Californian Surfer’s Life Style” has now become an International
Product of the Surfing Industry, catching waves of gratitude from surfers all over the world.

Fu Wax is likely to be found under the feet of the world’s premier surfers, including (but certainly not limited to) Kelly Slater, Dane Reynolds, John John Florence, Koa Rothman (who forsakes his father’s own Da Hui blend in pursuit of Fu), and literally the whole Brazilian CT contingent. Slater provides Fu Wax for his visitors at Surf Ranch. Despite its current ubiquity, surfers continue to horde their gluey bars from friends, family, and competitors alike.

“It’s like drugs or something,” Kolohe Andino said in 2011. “You have to have it.”
